Aug 30 The Nightingale

These are some fairly old designs of mine I thought I would post now as it will be a little while before I have some time to scan in some of my newer work.  This is from my Nightingale collection. Just some fun designs comprising of my favorite themes of asian and 20s styling.

Aug 26 Lisa Farmer at Berlin Fashion Week

"Neither fish, flesh, fowl nor good red herring" is the amusing title of Lisa Farmer’s amazing new bag collection. The Milan based designer has expertly handcrafted the collection which showcases an array of gorgeously shaped one-of-a-kind bags. She takes inspiration from nature, assembling her designs to resemble images of fish and beetles. Displayed recently at the Stark trade show in Berlin this month, Farmer has been garnering much deserved attention for her fresh and quirky take on design. Click here to visit her site.

Aug 23 Colouring Vintage Photos Tutorial

Recently I have had ‘film noir’ cravings which I have satisfied with classic Bette Davis and Louise Brooks’ films. The films left me inspired to revisit some Photoshop projects I started awhile ago in which I enhanced and colourised old vintage photos. I decided to also create a tutorial for others out there whom might be interested in trying their hand at this technique. Please feel free to send in your results I would love to see them ^_^

This is a recolourisation of Miss Joan Bennett 'Before and After' I created about a year ago.

Aug 09 Butterfly Geisha

I had the wonderful opportunity lately to photograph two models wearing antique kimonos borrowed from my mom as well as a family friend. The results were very beautiful and I have been inspired to practice my photoshop manipulating skills as well as producing paintings of the images.  This is a photoshop copulation/digital painting of Nicole.

Aug 09 Alice`s Tea Party

I have been a bit lazy at posting my own artwork but I am finally getting around to it. This was a quick acrylic painting of my favorite storybook character Alice. The canvas is 8x8``.  I had a bit of difficulty getting the accuracy right in the face using this media, in such a small space, so I think I will attempt again with watercolours.

Aug 05 The Strange World of Liza Corbette

Liza lives in a fairytale world of strange, twisted creatures. Her simple line drawings comprise of distorted people, animals and curios. Equally disturbing and pretty it’s the duality of her work that makes it so intriguing.

Check out her website here

You can also purchase some of her beautiful prints on Etsy.

She also has an incredibly interesting blog about her everyday life and art inspirations here.

Aug 04 Adieu Paris...

So I am back! I had an awesome time and had a amazing week full of adventures. We visited all the major monuments in Paris, Notre Dame, Sacré-Coeur, Paris Catacombs (unfortunately just as it was closing), The Louvre, The Natural History Museum and Zoo, Disneyland! (Wee we were such kids) and my favourite Chateau de Versailles! As a huge fan of Marie Antoinette this was a little dream come true to me and Versailles was so much more then I was expecting. The palace itself is incredibly grand and to the point of being overly opulent with ornamentation. And I was so absolutely shocked at how enormous the palace grounds were. We had a lot of fun exploring the little hedge labyrinths and I especially loved Marie Antoinette’s little theatre and her country village ‘the Queen’s Hamlet.’ I have 1800 photographs to sort through but once I do I will be posting relevant pictures here and on my travel blog. I honestly can’t wait to go back to Paris I am so in love.

On a side note I was interested to see that Karl Lagerfeild had a photographic mini exhibition at Versailles named Versailles à l’ombre du soleil (Versailles in the shadow of the sun), a nice black and white architectural study of the Palace and grounds.
